After months of training, preparation, and lots of fundraising efforts, the Ashton Manor walking team successfully completed their sponsored 13-mile trek around London this past weekend. The Trek13 challenge invites individuals to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society by taking on a sponsored 13-mile trek around London, and our staff members were very happy to volunteer to take on the challenge.
Thanks to the support of our community and the tireless efforts of the team in fundraising, through both sponsorship and a very successful cake sale at the home, they were able to smash their fundraising target.
The Alzheimer’s Society is a cause very close to all of our hearts. We see every day how Alzheimer’s and dementia impact our residents and their families, and understand the importance of the work the Alzheimer’s Society does, not only to support those affected by Alzheimer’s and their loved ones, but also the vital research they carry out into the disease.
Congratulations and a massive well done to our brilliant Ashton Manor team members, who have been out training in all weathers, across the beautiful Surrey landscape in preparation for this event. Thankfully, the sun was shining for them on the day and they crossed that finish line with the biggest smiles on their faces.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, giving your support and encouragement to the team. Thank you to everyone who sponsored, shared the link to the Just Giving page, joined us for our fundraising cake sale, and of course, thank you to the residents, relatives, and colleagues who cheered the team on!
“Over the past months, our training walks have become more than preparation for the 13‑mile challenge in London. They have been moments of laughter, shared effort, and quiet determination. What surprised us most was how these walks created space to connect in ways we rarely can during busy workdays. Away from the office, away from the rush, we found time to talk, to listen, and to get to know each other beyond our roles. The miles gave us room to breathe, to laugh, and to build a sense of togetherness that only grows when people share a journey side by side.
The day came, and together we crossed the finish line. Every step was for the Alzheimer’s Society, for those we care for today, and for those we once cared for and still carry in our hearts. We walked in their honour, and we did it with a sense of pride and quiet accomplishment that words barely capture. We did it for them — and we did it together.”
