National Pet Day 2025

Published on 11th April 2025

Join Beritaz Care in celebrating our four-legged friends this National Pet Day.

The positive impact animals can have on our lives is huge, and we have particularly found this to be true for the residents of our homes. We work with some fantastic organisations that help us to offer animal therapy sessions within our homes. In these sessions, residents have the chance to meet and interact with all kinds of animals from dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, to farmyard animals like ducks, chickens, goats and donkeys. We have even enjoyed visits from birds of prey, reptiles and a miniature horse. Not only do our residents love to meet, hold and have a cuddle with these animals, they also really enjoy learning more about them and their care from the wonderful expert handlers that bring them to visit us.

Receiving visits from these wonderful animals always brightens our residents’ day, watching the animals run around and cause mischief always leads to lots of laughter and smiles. It also makes us happy to know that the animals are so well cared for and are also having fun, enjoying themselves while they receive lots of attention and cuddles.

Many of our staff members have their own beloved fluffy friends who they will bring into the home to visit the residents. Often our residents will become familiar with our staff members’ pet dogs, asking after them and looking forward to their visits, they have the biggest smiles on their faces whenever these cute pooches come to say hello.

Pets play such an important role in our lives and many of our residents have fond memories of their own beloved pets. We love to hear our residents share stories about pets they have had throughout their lives and all the fantastic memories they have with them.

Our residents (and staff) really enjoy anytime we have pets visiting the home. For our residents, spending time with animals is a calming and relaxing experience that is fantastic for their mental wellbeing. Research has shown that animal therapy sessions within a care home setting can have a positive impact on a person’s mental health, often helping individuals with dementia to feel happier and more energised.

We are a community of animal lovers at Beritaz Care, that’s why we are happy to be celebrating National Pet Day and showing our appreciation for all the pets and therapy animals we get to meet this National Pet Month.
