In 2025, our activities and events calendar was jam-packed with fun pastimes, wellbeing activities, and social events for our residents. Across our homes, our teams were busy arranging varied and interesting activities that appealed to our residents’ unique tastes, and working closely with our residents to put on activities that really brought them joy.
This past year, the regular activities schedules in our homes included everything from reminiscence activities to arts and crafts, animal therapy, and musical activities, outdoor activities like gardening and day trips, as well as games, puzzles, baking, and so much more.
During 2025, our residents have played a more active role than ever in planning events and influencing the activities that make up the monthly calendars. The regular home meetings held with residents have provided the perfect opportunity to get suggestions on what they would like to see included in the activities schedule, and they have had some fantastic ideas. The resident council at Robertson Nursing Home, which was introduced in 2025, has also been instrumental in making sure the residents of the home have a voice when it comes to activities, food, décor, and other plans for the home.
In 2025, wellbeing continued to be a strong theme in our regular activities. As well as activities to support mental wellbeing, last year many of our homes focussed on fun ways to support physical wellbeing and exercise. Our residents enjoyed getting active while playing games and enthusiastically took part in armchair exercise sessions. We had some fantastic organisations that came to our homes to guide our residents through fun and inclusive exercises aimed at building strength, coordination, and mobility. These have been very popular with residents during the year, and we are looking forward to continuing this in 2026.
We have been pleased to see our residents continue to join in with the various clubs arranged by staff within our homes. In 2025, the cooking club was a favourite with the residents of Robertson Nursing Home, baking a variety of delicious treats, including almond cake, chocolate brownies, and a blueberry cake. Members of Ashton Manor’s book club even succeeded in writing and publishing their own book in 2025. The Ship Inn – Robertson Nursing Home’s men’s club has been a great way for some of the residents to form friendships during their monthly get-togethers.
Over the past year, we have dedicated time to one-on-one sessions with our residents, helping them to build relationships with our team members and benefit from focussed attention. These sessions also gave us the opportunity to encourage residents in their individual hobbies, any pastimes that have brought them joy throughout their lives, that we were keen to help them continue. From artists to musicians, gardeners and chess champions, we have been inspired by the talents of our residents this year and are proud to support them to pursue their passions.
With the delivery of our new Beritaz minibus earlier in the year, we were excited to plan trips and excursions for the residents. We had plenty of opportunity to explore our local areas with so many lovely landmarks on our doorsteps. In 2025, residents enjoyed outings to Guildford Cathedral, the RNLI Centre in Poole, Frensham Pond, and several seaside trips, as well as local pubs, cafes, museums, garden centres, and some of our residents’ other favourite local spots.
Over the summer, each of our homes hosted their own summer parties and events, all with their own unique themes. Whether indoor gatherings or garden parties (all depending on the weather), staff planned music, games, and delicious refreshments all in keeping with their party theme. As well as being so much fun for our residents, these parties were the perfect opportunity to invite families, friends, and members of the local community to celebrate with us.
This past year, we also had the chance to celebrate some very special occasions for our residents. We were honoured to help several residents celebrate their 100th birthdays in 2025 with parties held at our homes so they could share their special day with their families and friends. We also had the chance to help some residents celebrate their wedding anniversaries, arranging special celebrations for these lovely couples at our homes.
In 2025, we commemorated many events at our homes with themed activities and events. Easter, Valentine’s Day, VE Day, Remembrance Day, Bonfire Night, and many more have been celebrated at our homes this year. Residents have enjoyed taking part in the themed activities arranged by our brilliant and creative activities staff, as well as the chance to celebrate throughout the year at the various social events.
Throughout December, our residents enjoyed a lot of festive fun and Christmas-themed activities. With pantomimes, carol concerts, festive arts and crafts, and of course our annual resident Christmas parties, it has been a busy season for everyone. Christmas Day at our homes was filled with residents’ favourite festive traditions and a delicious Christmas lunch for everyone to enjoy together. Thank you to everyone who joined us for Christmas and throughout the festive season, and to our fantastic teams of staff in our homes for making this Christmas a magical one for each and every resident.
At Beritaz Care, our job is to provide more than just a safe environment and support with daily tasks. Within our homes, we aim to create a community where residents can live their lives to the full and enjoy the type of activities that bring them happiness and fulfilment. We are already looking forward to the events planned for 2026 and working with our residents to arrange even more activities that bring fun and laughter into our homes throughout the year.
