Windsor Court residents set sail for an adventure

Published on 18th August 2026

With the glorious weather we have been enjoying this summer, the residents of Windsor Court have been enjoying spending time outside and exploring the local area. With so many fantastic places to visit and experiences to enjoy right on our doorstep, the summer has been filled with many memorable adventures.

On one of our recent outings, the residents and staff of Windsor Court travelled on the minibus to visit Poole Quay, one of our favourite places to visit, especially in the summer. But rather than exploring the quay like usual, this time we took the residents for a boat trip experience to enjoy the sights from the water. We were greeted at the quay by the crew of the Dolphin in their distinctive yellow shirts, who equipped us all with life jackets. Duty skipper Bill, who was in charge of the Dolphin for our trip, welcomed us to the boat as the residents readied to set sail.

Since 1980, The Friends of Dolphin have provided trips for over 60,000 passengers, of various abilities, and their helpers. The boat has been specially adapted to carry disabled people of all ages and disabilities, particularly those in wheelchairs or with physical disabilities.

The boat was ready with everything they needed to enjoy their sunny voyage, including sun care and refreshments. We had access to the sheltered cabin with side and rear awnings so the residents could stay nicely shaded and protected from the sun and wind.

We set off on our boat trip to explore the islands around Poole Quay, including the famous Brownsea Island, best known for its red squirrels and where Robert Baden-Powell, a British Army Officer, held the first Scout camp.

Our residents had a wonderful voyage on the Dolphin, seeing all the sights of Poole Quay and the surrounding islands. The residents said they had a wonderful afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed their boating experience, some residents brought home souvenirs to remind them of the day.

Thank you to The Friends of Dolphin for helping us to provide our residents with such a brilliant adventure and for making the entire experience so wonderful.
