World Alzheimer’s Day 2025

Published on 21st September 2025

Today is World Alzheimer’s Day in the UK, a campaign to spread awareness and encourage support for those impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia. Throughout September, the Alzheimer’s Society are encouraging everyone to educate themselves on the impact Alzheimer’s has on the 55 million people across the world affected by this disease.

Within our homes, we see firsthand the impact Alzheimer’s has on our residents and their families, as well as the challenges they face in their day-to-day lives. At Beritaz Care, we are long-term supporters of the Alzheimer’s Society and the brilliant work they do to support families impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia, as well as the research studies they undertake. Team members from Windsor Court Care Home participated in a sponsored walk around Stonehenge earlier this year, as part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Trek13 event, and raised a fantastic £1,594 for this very worthy cause.

A key part of the World Alzheimer’s Day campaign is focused on education, how to notice the symptoms in your loved ones, steps for getting a diagnosis, and advice on supporting those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Within the Beritaz Care homes, we also prioritise education on the topic of Alzheimer’s for our team members, to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to best support our residents.

We have held dedicated training sessions on the subject, providing our staff with insights into the challenges faced by our residents and how we can support them to feel comfortable and safe in our homes. We keep informed of best practices and new strategies that we can apply in our homes to offer the best possible care to our residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Team members from Springkell House Care Home were invited to take part in the virtual dementia bus experience, hosted by the Hunter Centre, a wonderful day care centre near the home offering a welcoming environment for people to socialise, take part in activities, and receive help with their diagnosis. Our staff really appreciated the chance to join in with this experience, where they had the chance to get a glimpse of what people with Alzheimer’s and dementia experience every day.

We also do our best to share our knowledge, advising friends and family members on how best to support their loved ones with dementia, often running educational sessions and talks during relatives’ meetings.

Within our homes, we take steps to make sure everything about a resident’s day-to-day routine is as easy as possible, from adapting our communication methods to thinking about how meals are served to them. It’s these small changes our staff can make that will hopefully make a big difference to our residents. Our main goal is always to ensure we can support our residents to feel comfortable and safe in our homes.

Please take some time today or during World Alzheimer’s Month to learn a bit more about the impact Alzheimer’s and dementia have on people in the UK and throughout the world.
