Nafiul's story...
As a fellow (FRSPH) at the Royal Society for Public Health, I enjoy working directly in the care industry, which allows me to ground my academic knowledge in real-world, hands-on practice. I have an extensive academic background in public health and social work, including a BSS and MSS in Social Work, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Sheffield (UK), and an MSc in Governance and Leadership in European Public Health from Maastricht University (Netherlands).
My previous research and field placements have focused heavily on healthcare professional experiences and vulnerable populations, which ignited a strong desire to transition from the theoretical side of health systems to frontline, community-level care where I can make an immediate difference.
I have been working at Robertson Nursing Home since September 2025. My role involves providing day-to-day emotional and social support to the residents. I arrange activities that actively promote and support our residents' social and mental well-being. I also focus on encouraging residents to maintain healthy fluid levels and tracking their daily well-being. Keeping accurate records of daily activities while strictly maintaining health and safety standards and resident confidentiality is also a key part of my role.
Robertson Nursing Home is a fantastic place to work, with a very supportive management team and colleagues. It is incredibly rewarding to make meaningful contributions to the residents and support them through tailored emotional care. Moreover, seeing the direct positive impact that structured mental and social activities have on their daily happiness and quality of life is my favourite part of my job.
