Pushpa's story...
I have been a part of the Ashton Manor team since August 2023. I chose a career in the care industry because I am a compassionate person and wanted to do something meaningful. Working in care means I can support my family while feeling fulfilled in my work.
Working in Ashton Manor was my first experience in the care industry, and in fact, my first employment experience. I enjoy getting to come to work in such a homely environment, working with my amazing colleagues who all work well together and support each other.
In my role as senior care assistant, I lead the care team and ensure our residents are receiving quality person-centred care and are always treated with dignity. I ensure that high standards are maintained by our team on every single shift; that is something that is very important to me. As part of my job, I also support the nurses with medication, helping the nursing team to make sure all our residents’ needs are met.
My favourite thing about my job is getting the chance to care for those in need and knowing I am making a difference in their lives. The residents share part of their lives with us so need to have trust in us; that is the most important thing. I enjoy all my interactions with the residents, sharing giggles and having little chats about different things, and above all, I love knowing that I am helping to relieve any loneliness they might be feeling.
I recently transitioned into a senior role and was very happy for the opportunity to progress. This role does come with more responsibilities, but I have had so much support from management in this transition and in adjusting to everything that comes with the new role. The management is, and has always been, very supportive and offer me guidance whenever needed. My colleagues have also shown me so much support and encouragement in accepting the role of senior care assistant.
I have made lots of memories at the home in my time here. Spending so many of our days here means we get to celebrate different occasions and events here with the residents. One of my favourite memories is from last Christmas, enjoying a nice Christmas lunch together with all my colleagues who were working on the day; that was very special.
For me, Ashton Manor is like my second home, and all the staff members and residents feel like family. I feel very happy and lucky to come to work each day. After our own homes, this is the place we spend most of our time, so there is a sense of familiarity and belonging when I come to work, which I really like. Also, the management here are very supportive and always offering guidance, and my colleagues at the home are amazing.
There is always a chance for further growth and development for us as staff. I have taken up a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care, which has been supported by the management. It has been an excellent opportunity to continue my professional development, which will help me to pursue more opportunities in the future.
