Georgina Adaken – Support Manager
I have worked at Windsor Court since 2023, but with all the wonderful residents, families and colleagues I have gotten to know, it feels like I have been here much longer.
Working at Windsor Court was my first job in care. I previously worked in the hospitality industry for ten years and just felt like that wasn’t the right fit for me. I wanted to do more in life and do something that would help others.
From a young age, I have always wanted to help people and enjoyed challenging myself. I worked in a nursery for two years and loved it there, then I left to work in hospitality but always felt like I wanted to do more. I wanted a job that meant something, where I was able to help those who needed support.
Since the moment I first stepped into Windsor Court, it broke my preconceptions of what a care home is. It was a warm, friendly environment, I instantly felt welcomed by the staff and residents. I am so grateful to the management at Windsor Court for enabling me to progress and grow in the home and providing me with regular training.
In my role at Windsor Court, I support the Home Manager with daily tasks such as supervisions, staff training and carrying out pre-assessments for potential residents. I also provide support to the team on the floor during the week, helping residents with personal care tasks, so they can look their best, and supporting with medication administration. My role is focussed on ensuring our residents’ wellbeing, as well as building strong bonds with the residents, their families and other healthcare professionals we work with at the home.
Working for a company like Beritaz, I feel valued and feel like my opinions and choices matter. Beritaz truly sticks to their values and working here I know I will always be given the support to continue to grow in my career. I enjoy that the CEO and the team in the Business Support Centre are very hands-on. They visit the home regularly and are always available to offer the team any support we require.
Being around the residents and listening to their stories is the best part about my job. I like to know I can be a help to the residents when they are having a bad day, finding ways to put a smile on their faces or sharing a laugh with them. I also enjoy getting to know the families in the home, building a relationship so they can trust me and the rest of the team as we take care of their loved one.
It’s hard to pick my favourite memory from my time at the home so far, but if I did, it would be the staff social when we went bowling. It was a chance for all the staff to relax and enjoy themselves, we were all able to be silly and have a really good time.
During my time at Windsor Court, I have enjoyed watching each member of staff grow and progress just as I did, seeing them engage with the residents and empower them. Working in a confident team that feels comfortable sharing their culture with each other and with the residents makes me very happy.
