This is the staff story for Monica Pacala June 2020
I have now been at Ashton Manor for nearly 6 years I only planned to stay for 3!
Before coming to England I had never worked in care and had 0 knowledge, I didn’t know what to expect and my English was very poor.
My first day got off to a bad start I was two hours late, I hadn’t realised I needed to be on the other side of the road to catch the bus. I was fearful I would be in trouble but I needn’t have worried, Carla (The manager) opened the door to me and warmly welcomed me with a lovely smile, she wasn’t cross but wanted to make sure I was ok. The managers are caring, considerate and listen to you.
My mentor was brilliant and I got off to a good start with their support and patience, I didn’t feel like a number as I had done so in previous employment, I felt valued and a member of staff from the get go. The values and the ethos of the home makes you want to do well and in a year I became a senior, my English improved and I was given extra responsibilities as the Health & Safety Champion.
The residents are great and because we use a person centred approach, respect our residents and meet their needs with consistency I can see they feel safe living in a friendly, caring, trusting and peaceful environment.
I have no reasons to go anywhere else I am very happy at Ashton Manor Nursing Home.
