Nutrition and Hydration Week takes place each year and aims to highlight the important topics of nutrition and hydration, as well as the role they play in maintaining health and wellbeing. At Beritaz Care we take this issue into consideration every day, as nutrition and hydration play an important part in the care we provide to our residents.
Our seasonal menus are designed by the chefs in our homes to provide a nutritionally balanced diet for our residents, catering to any dietary requirements they may individually have. We are grateful to have so many talented chefs working in our homes, with Sharon Fisher, Head Chef at Robertson Nursing Home being awarded Chef of the Year in 2019 by the Surrey Care Association and Jogi Tomko, Head Chef at Springkell House, also a finalist for the same award.
Our kitchen staff make delicious meals every day for our residents, sourcing local ingredients and providing a variety of options, so there is something that everyone will enjoy. A variety of drinks are available at all times to our residents and our staff pay close attention to their hydration.
We also love to get our residents’ input and feedback on the food and drink served at the home, we will regularly ask them what they did or didn’t like and we welcome suggestions for any of their favourite meals they would like included on the menu. Having choices in what they eat or drink is important for our residents, it helps to give them a sense of independence and a feeling of control over their daily lives.
We are passionate about nutrition at Beritaz Care, as well as the meals they eat every day, food often plays a key role in many of our residents’ activities. We love to get the residents involved with baking activities, making tasty treats for everyone to enjoy, many residents also really enjoy growing their own fresh produce in our gardens. At Beritaz we know maintaining good nutrition and hydration is something that needs to be taken seriously, but we also believe food and drink should be fun and enjoyable for our residents.
